Description
This film was made on location at the Capanagh bogland and at the “Knowe” farmhouse in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland, during the summer of 2018.
The objective of the film is to record the fast disappearing tradition of cutting turf by hand.
The skill and labour required should be preserved for future generations to reflect on.
The Turfman, Sam Woodside, has been cutting turf at Capanagh since 1975 and before that at his home in Co.Fermanagh. Mr.Woodside proved to be an excellent subject and we are indebted to him for his time and efforts in the making of this film.
Merglan Media hopes that this short film faithfully describes the skill, culture, art and tradition of hand cutting turf. Additionally, we would want the film to be informative and easy on the eye.
